Description
An expansion vessel is a reservoir that pressurizes water. This water acts as a buffer to absorb pressure fluctuations in the heating system. When the water in the heating system heats up, it expands. The expansion vessel then absorbs this excess water, keeping the pressure in the system stable. If the pressure at the expansion vessel is too low, the highest point may enter a vacuum. This causes automatic air vents to open and allow air/oxygen into the system. Air/oxygen is one of the greatest enemies of a central heating system, as it causes rust and algae formation in the heating.
